New Features on EconomistMom.com

July 14th, 2008 . by economistmom

Just wanted to point out two new features on this website:

  1. A search box, at bottom of left sidebar;
  2. A “recent comments” log, around middle of left sidebar.

On those recent comments, please avoid the temptation to treat this blogsite like an IM board!  (This is a little (friendly) hint to some of those deeply engrossed in conversations about Social Security…. I feel as if I’m being baited into the conversation!  Maybe I should point out that at home I try to ignore my dogs at the backdoor if they’re pawing madly at the door, as I insist that they sit quietly and patiently before I’ll let them in…)

Oh, also, over the weekend my photographer (and “allowance trust fund”) daughter took a new photo of me, and developed it herself, and it’s now on the “about” page.  She is so darn talented!

    Well I’ll take the hint.

    But while almost everyone in a comment thread generally thinks someone else threw the first stone the Social Security debate is unusually charged by the fact that most participants are at a much lower information level than they think they are. Which has the unfortunate result of them condescending to people who really are not out to pick fights but instead provide correctives based on links to the original data, which in this case is the Reports. Which leaves the original commenter in kind of a bind, what is the response when someone challenges your intelligence and/or integrity?

    The only solution I can think of off the top of my head would me posting my response to such things on my own website and leave a link here, which would limit the opportunity for food fights but also the possiblities for actual learning experiences. Or of course not commenting at all to start with, after all I have a pretty well attended forum of my own (my Social Security series at Angry Bear now being up to 33 installments).

    And I am seriously interested in hearing Concord’s specific take on Social Security which we could put up as a guest post at Angry Bear if you liked and so keep any subsequent bickering out of your hair.

    Any way one way or another I will try to be a more polite guest.

    Bruce: I have visited other blogs enough to know that everyone’s actually very well behaved here, relative to other places! And I want to point out that despite my teasing you with an analogy to the anxious behavior of my dogs, you all already know how much I love my dogs!
